Transport Planner (Integrated) Degree Apprenticeship Update

Transport Planner (Integrated) Degree Apprenticeship Update

Good News for the Transport Planning Sector  - 26th October 2018

Yesterday evening, the Trailblazer Group responsible for the development of the Transport Planner (Integrated) Degree Apprenticeship, was informed by the Institute for Apprenticeships (IfA) that the Apprenticeship Standard has been approved.

This is the second stage of development within which the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (K, S, B) are approved and signed off by the IfA.

The Standard will be formally published on the IfA website in the next few weeks on the following page: https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/transport-planner-degree

Next Steps

The Trailblazer Group has recently met to start the development of the End Point Assessment (EPA) plan and will meet again in early November to review progress and refine this document.

Once a draft is agreed, a broad consultation across the sector will be launched, with comments being addressed in December, with the most likely submission of the EPA plan to the IfA in early January 2019 for their consideration.

The Trailblazer Group has also been working with two universities, Aston and the University of the West of England (UWE) to design, develop and launch degrees bespoke to this Apprenticeship for September 2019 (subject to validation and IfA approval).

The Trailblazer Group is also working with these universities to secure an appropriate funding band from the IfA and ESFA for employers, both levy and non-levy payers, to secure the delivery of a high quality and technically challenging Degree Apprenticeship.

Before you Recruit

Before employers can recruit and employ apprentices, two things must happen:

• the IfA must formally approve the End Point Assessment (EPA) plan and the funding associated with the Degree Apprenticeship

• the universities must validate their degrees for delivery

The Trailblazer Group and universities are working to ensure these formalities are secured in Spring, allowing employers to recruit apprentices for a September 2019 start.

We look forward to keeping you up to date on progress.
